Jefferson City Council 10_10The Jefferson City Council met Tuesday night in regular session.

Following two public hearings, the Council approved resolutions to amend the urban renewal plan to include an incentive for the new Wahl-McAtee Tire facility, as well as a development agreement with the business for construction of a new building in the west business park along Highway 4. Additionally, the Council approved a nutrient reduction study for future upgrades to the wastewater treatment plant.

The Council also approved six hotel/motel grant applications as presented. The projects include installing historical photos in the windows of the Greene County Historical Museum, making improvements to the country school house with the Greene County Historical Society, training for area young leaders with the Iowa Association of Business and Industry, purchasing an additional plaque for Jefferson Matters: Main Street’s promotion committee along with hosting the Smithsonian Institute’s traveling exhibit for next summer and promotional items for the Bell Tower Community Foundation. The total amount of grant funds given out was $20,258.

The meeting then ended in a budget priority workshop for the 2019 fiscal year. The top three priorities, as determined by the Council, were housing, entires into the city and obtaining grants for projects.
