Jefferson Kiwanis Club met earlier this week and inducted a new slate of officers for the next year.
The officers include: President Vicky Lautner, President-Elect Tom Heater, Vice-President Denny Hammen, Secretary Toni Wetrich and Treasurer Bob Schwarzkopf. The officers were inducted by special guest, Kiwanis Lieutenant Governor Geri Derner from Ames.
Past-President Mike Palmer says the Jefferson Kiwanis Club was officially established on September 6, 1967. There are currently 42 members and Palmer says they are always looking for more people to join, especially younger people.
“Like most service clubs, as we age we need to find younger members, and we don’t just want to age out of existence. That’s why being 50 years (old) is so significant. That’s very difficult to do in this era.”
Kiwanis helps with several local organizations and projects. In its 50 years, they have raised over $385,000 in donations. The next fundraiser is the annual pancake breakfast and silent auction slated for October 28th.
