Dallas Board of Supervisors

At this past week’s meeting of the Dallas County Board of Supervisors, they dealt with four different items involving the secondary roads department.

County Engineer Al Miller was on hand to take the Board through each of their requests. The first was discussion on rehiring Holm Bridge Inspections to serve as bridge consultants. Holm will serve as on-call inspectors whenever Miller needs input on the county’s bridges, a position they’ve served in the past. The second item was a request for a tractor purchase. The department was wanting to replace an old tractor with a 2000 John Deere 5125R Utility Tractor from VanWall Equipment in Perry. The price for the tractor after factoring in the trade-in was $78,033.18.

Lastly, the roads department wanted to form a contract with Freese-Notis for weather forecasting services. The service costs $375 per month, and Miller plans to use it primarily during the winter months to help them be more informed. The Supervisors approved all three requests for the roads department. Additionally, the department was consulted on an item later in the meeting, relating to a building they currently use as storage near Waukee. An individual had inquired about possibly purchasing the building. The Board and the roads department agreed it was something they would like to explore. The county plans to get the building appraised and then post it on the open market.
