Birders and other interested outdoor enthusiasts are encouraged to head to Woodward this Sunday to take part in Dallas County Conservation’s Hawk Watch.

Forest Park Museum Curator Pete Malmberg says this is a very popular event, which will be held at the High Trestle Trail overlook from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. He points out it will require about a half-mile walk on level ground to get to the location, but assures people it will be worth the trip. “This’ll be awesome, because you get to experience the ‘river of raptors’ as hawks, eagles, and falcons migrate south through the Des Moines River Valley. Really impressive, and you get a chance to see a lot of these magnificent birds.”

Dallas County naturalists will be on hand to answer questions and educate people about the birds. There is no cost for the event and registration is not required.
