We are wrapping up National 4-H Week, but the program goes year round.
Greene County 4-H Young Leader President and State 4-H Council member Kara Betts says she’s gained several valuable skills while being in 4-H.
“I’ve gotten better a public speaking, being able to talk to people and have a good conversation that means something. And then 4-H has also helped me with a lot of various life skills. I’ve learned how to sew a button onto a shirt, which I think is very useful, how to cook and measure your ingredients and just various different things.”

Greenbrier 4-H Club Leader and volunteer Linda Hedges says she’s been a 4-H volunteer for over 20 years, and she continues to support the program because of its consistency.
“In its 100 years, it hasn’t changed much at all. And that has to do with multi-age grouping, multi-skill grouping. Kids from 4th through 12th grade are in the same club and so those kids learn to deal with each other, which doesn’t happen in a lot of youth organizations.”
Any adult or youth in grades 4 through 12 wanting to participate in the Greene County 4-H program can call 386-2138, or stop by the Extension office in Jefferson to learn more.
