Another tough task is ahead for the Greene County football team. Coach Mitch Moore’s Rams host unbeaten and top 10 rated Boone on Friday at Linduska Field in Jefferson in the annual Homecoming game. Greene County is 1-4 overall and 1-2 in Class 3A District 2 after coming from 14 points behind to win by 40 in Iowa Falls last Friday over Iowa Falls-Alden by a 61-21 final.

The Rams are in their sixth season playing as Greene County and the 600 yards of total offense and the 61 points scored were certainly uncommon, as was the rushing performance by sophomore Colby Kafer. His 285 yards on the ground came on just 19 carries, and he scored four touchdowns. He entered the contest with one TD and fewer than 200 rushing yards.

Kafer’s performance was unmatched in the seasons the Rams have played as Greene County. In 2015 in a 49-42 victory over Boone, Daric Whipple ran for 253 yards and passed for 210 more. In 2007 when the Rams played as Jefferson-Scranton/Paton-Churdan, Marty Ball ran for 292 yards on 33 carries in a 27-24 road victory vs. Tri-Center (Neola).

Boone averages 40 points per game and is coming off a 55-34 win over the Gilbert Tigers. Slowing down the Toreadors on offense won’t be easy, but IF-A didn’t score in the second half, and that’s the first time this season the Rams have held a team off the scoreboard for a half.

The contest will be broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com Friday night with coverage at 6:30 p.m. and kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
