Art Harvest Tour

This Saturday and Sunday will be the fourth annual Art Harvest Tour around central Iowa, and Perry is one of the stops on the tour.

The event was started as a collaboration between Perry’s Art on the Prairie group, and local artists Ryk Weiss and Pam Dennis. Weiss said he and Dennis had attempted to form art tours around central Iowa in years past, but nothing stuck until they met Jenny Ecklund and Mary Rose Nichols. He says they brought a level of organization they lacked in the past, and over the last four years the Art Harvest Tour has grown considerably.

The idea of the tour is for people to visit artists in their studios in various cities, including Perry, Madrid, Ames, Boone, Ogden, and other stops along the way. Weiss says it provides people an opportunity not afforded to them at typical art fairs. “The uniqueness of going to an artist’s place is probably the thing people enjoy the most. You know, seeing where an artist works and seeing a lot more examples of the kind of things they can do than you’d ever see just going to a festival and walking past booth after booth.”
