A pivotal football game in the Class 1A District 6 standings takes place tonight in Jewell. The Panorama Panthers (3-1 overall; 1-1 Class 1A District 6) hit the road looking for back-to-back victories against the South Hamilton Hawks (3-1 overall; 1-1 Class 1A District 6). Both teams have suffered one loss inside the district, and the winner is in a better position to clinch one of the group’s two automatic playoff spots.

Panorama returned to winning form last week in a 40-24 homecoming victory over the Odgen Bulldogs (1-3 overall; 0-2 Class 1A District 7). Trailing 16-12 at halftime, the Panthers outscored the Bulldogs, 28-8, in the final two quarters. Panorama junior Brody Rickheim rushed for a team-best 111 yards and three touchdowns.

South Hamilton looks to regroup tonight after suffering a 42-0 loss last week at Van Meter. Panorama head football coach Lyle Alumbaugh said despite beating the Hawks 42-17 last year in Panora; he left the field impressed by South Hamilton. “We knew when we walked off the field a year ago that (South Hamilton) was going to be one of the contenders in the district (this year),” Alumbaugh said, “The score from Van Meter was a bit of a surprise to me, but, at the same time, I know Van Meter’s solid outfit. South Hamilton’s well coached, they’ve got a lot of kids, and they are aggressive.”

A pair of 3-1 teams squares off tonight when Panorama visits South Hamilton. Kickoff’s scheduled for 7 p.m.
