Today is the deadline for all city council and mayoral candidates to submit their nomination papers to be put on the November general election ballot.
In Greene County, there are at least two council seats available in each of the seven communities, along with the mayoral seat, with the exception of the City of Jefferson, where the mayor’s term is a four-year term. The other mayoral seats are two-year terms. Jefferson City Administrator Mike Palmer says there are three of the five seats available for this election cycle.
“All seats are at-large, the Council changed that. So there will be three seats open for four-year terms. There’s one seat that was vacated by Lisa Jaskey, it was a four-year term, there’s still two years left on that. So a lot of potential change there with three council members and then the two-year council member too.”
The minimum required signatures is ten in most cities, with the exception of Dana, which only requires five signatures to be on the ballot. Any special measures from the cities must be submitted by tomorrow to the Greene County Auditor’s office by that city’s respective city clerk.
