As tropical storms continue to ravage the Southeast, Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center High School students are helping relief efforts. The high school’s FCCLA chapter organized a “Cell Phone Day” fundraiser last Friday. The group raised around $250 and will be auctioning off a signed volleyball and football during homecoming next week.
The proceeds will go toward relief packages. The packages were inspired by educator blog Sun, Sand, and Second Grade’s Adopt a Classroom Program. Chapter Advisor Cathy Lange describes the content of the packages, which will benefit a 9th Grade English class in Houston. “The teacher had an Amazon (book) wish list, so we just popped on the wish list and ordered novels that she had on that list. Then we did some snacky items, because we just were thinking of what are things that we would like in our school.”
The Houston school lost a majority of their library during Hurricane Harvey and are just returning to normal school functions. The ACGC Booster Club also donated Charger athletic apparel. For more information or to donate, contact the school.
