ACGC volleyball Head Coach Lyndsey Noe was confident in her team’s chances to come out with a win against district opponent Des Moines Christian last night. Her team showed the spirit and teamwork Noe witnessed in the ACGC home tournament Saturday. Unfortunately, the Lions’ height and roster depth were too much for the Lady Chargers to handle, as they fell in straight sets 19-25, 11-25, 17-25.
The Lady Chargers began with a back-and-forth first set, trading the first dozen points. But in all three sets, the Lions used a frequent rotation of players, which slowly took its toll on the weary but spirited Lady Chargers. Lions Head Coach Brian Spanhut was not overly pleased with his team after the first set, but his demeanor quickly changed when the Lions went on a 9-0 scoring run to cruise in the second set.
The Lady Chargers came back in the third to make it a competitive match. Madylin Smith dove to the ground, coming up with an unbelievable dig to save a point. Unfortunately, the Lady Chargers could not create enough of those plays to come out with the win. Smith led the team with a complete game of five kills, two digs, and a block. The Lady Chargers are now 13-6 (2-2) and have another short turnaround as they hit the court Thursday against the Ogden Lady Bulldogs.
