The Guthrie County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Tuesday.
Becky Benton of State Street Insurance updated the Board. Northwest Evaluations will be conducting inspections on county buildings for insurance estimates. It will be the first comprehensive inspection in 15 years. The Board also discussed plans to place minimal coverage on the veterans’ monument on the west side of the courthouse.
The Board then discussed the new supervisor position at the County Transfer Station with County Health Services Executive Director Jotham Arber. He mentioned his department could also take on some of the responsibilities. Arber doesn’t see this addition immediately impacting their budget. “As far as budgets go, I don’t think we need to amend this year’s budget. I think we need time to figure out what the budget needs to be so we might as well leave the current budget in place. The health department will take on extra responsibility without additional payment and then in the fiscal year ‘18-19 when we’re rewriting the budgets, we can kind of look and see.”
The Board finished the discussion with Cindy Turkle of Turkle and Clark Environmental Consulting, who presented information on landfill requirements. Turkle suggested adding an additional monitor well and repairing fences near the station. The station will move to winter hours starting with the first Saturday in November.
Finally, the Board approved a major bridge replacement project for a 1930s structure on N46 over the South Raccoon River. The project is estimated at $930,000, with most of the funding coming from federal aid. The project is planned for next summer.
