Dallas Board of Supervisors

The Dallas County Board of Supervisors convened Tuesday morning in regular session.

The first part of the meeting was dedicated to several different conversations regarding the new law enforcement center. First, they reviewed proposals from two companies regarding wetland delineation consulting. The Board decided to utilize the services of FOR Iowa out of Boone, at the price of $2,450. They also approved an application to the Adel Zoning Commission for a permit, which will start the City’s review process on the project.

Next, the Supervisors had further discussion about the sewer systems for the facility. They are torn between an expansion for the Ortonville lagoon or hooking into the Adel sewer system, which may or may not be extended to the area by the time the center is ready to open. Representatives from the City of Adel said they will be having meetings this week and next, and should be able to let the Board know soon if the funding will be there for the sewer system extension. In the meantime, the Board plans to move forward with the lagoon expansion as if the City won’t get the funding, but they will stop short of fully paying for the expansion until they know for sure.

Other topics of discussion included the approval of several resolutions, including: voting for three proposed members for the Iowa Municipalities Workers Compensation Association (IMWCA) Board; utilities easements for CenturyLink and Interstate Power and Light in conservation areas, after holding public hearings related to them; a proclamation for National Voter Registration Day, which will be Tuesday, September 26th; the appointment of a Colfax Township trustee; and amending the official county depositories.

Additionally, the Supervisors discussed but took no action on the current space needs of the Community Services department. Finally, they learned of more options for the law enforcement center bond issuance, this time from Piper Jaffrey. The Board will hold a workshop next week to discuss the direction they wish to go for bond issuance.
