A huge comeback pushed the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers volleyball team (10-3 overall; 3-0 RRC) to the top of the Raccoon River Conference standings last night. The Tigers welcomed the Ballard Bombers (6-6 overall; 3-1 RRC) to Adel Tuesday for an undefeated league showdown. The match went the distance as ADM overtook Ballard in five sets (22-25, 17-25, 25-21, 25-16, 17-15).

ADM head volleyball coach Mary Beth Scott said she was proud of the girls’ ability to fight back and win the final three games and admits the team wasn’t 100% coming into the contest. “We had a couple of people sick, we had someone with stitches, and we had a few girls not practice until (Monday),” Scott said, “We knew coming in we could do it but that we weren’t playing and feeling our best, but I got it give it to the girls, they are a tenacious group, and I love them for that.”

Senior libero Jordan Hook said staying positive was key for the Tigers in making their comeback. “We can’t let our positivity leave us because then they are going to win the third game.” Hook said, “We had to keep our heads up and make sure that we weren’t getting down on ourselves and help pick each other up.”

Outside hitter Sami Schepers topped the Tigers with a season-high 20 kills, while Amy Gottschalk added 13. Hook dug up 22 balls defensively. The victory improves ADM to 10-3 overall, and the Tigers stay undefeated in three Raccoon River Conference matches. ADM heads to Dubuque this weekend for a tournament hosted by Dubuque Hempstead High School.
