The ACGC volleyball team looked a bit out of sorts heading into their home tournament on Saturday. The Chargers found that winning spark again, using the home court advantage to win the ACGC tournament.
The Lady Chargers began the day in the Black Pool. ACGC won their first match in pool play against cross-county rival Coon Rapids-Bayard 21-14, 16-21, 15-6. After the three-set first match, the Lady Chargers cruised to two more wins in pool play. They defeated the Underwood Lady Eagles 21-16, 21-10. They finished off pool play by beating the Glidden Ralston Lady Wildcats 21-11,21-6. Head Coach Lyndsey Noe credited the team’s defense for closing out pool play strong.
ACGC faced Audubon in the semifinals. The Lady Chargers beat the Lady Wheelers earlier in the season, and bested them again advancing to the championship game by a score of 21-16, 21-10. The Lady Chargers met the Lady Tigerhawks of Colfax-Mingo for the title. Both teams were 4-0 entering the match. Early in the first set, Olivia Laabs placed three consecutive aces to get the Lady Chargers off to a good start. Makayla Hoing added four kills to lead ACGC to a 21-14 set one win. Hoing and the Chargers took over from there as they took the second set and the championship, 21-14. Hoing and Mady Smith were selected to the All-Tournament Team. The Lady Chargers return to district play tomorrow night against Des Moines Christian in Guthrie Center.
