Two Jefferson men face several felony charges following a traffic stop last weekend.
According to the Greene County Sheriff’s office, just before 4pm Saturday, September 9th, a deputy stopped 36-year-old Derek Ott’s vehicle on I Avenue near 290th Street. Jefferson Police Chief Mark Clouse says the deputy knew that Ott was driving a vehicle without a license. Before the deputy placed Ott under arrest for driving while barred, the deputy searched Ott and his passenger, 33-year-old Jake John Ball, and the vehicle.
Clouse says the deputy found a game camera in Ball’s backpack. The camera was allegedly reported stolen the night before from Ball’s wife’s residence in the 100 block of West Madison Street. The deputy also found stolen jewelry from an apartment he was staying at in the 300 block of South Wilson Avenue. Ball was then arrested and charged with a Class B Felony for ongoing criminal conduct, two Class D Felonies for third degree burglary and a simple misdemeanor for violation of a no contact order with his wife. Ball faces additional charges from the Greene County Sheriff’s office of three Class D Felonies for third degree burglary, a Class B Felony for ongoing criminal conduct and three misdemeanors for possession of prescription drugs.
Ott also faces charges from the sheriff’s office of a misdemeanor for driving while barred and a felony for burglary. Further charges on Ott are pending completion of investigation.
Both men were booked and remain in the Greene County jail. Ott is being held on a $5,000 bond and Ball is under a $25,000 bond.
