The Perry School Board convened Monday evening for their September regular meeting.

The first piece of action on the agenda was a public hearing regarding a recreational trail easement between the District and Dallas County Conservation. No one from the public spoke during the hearing, though Conservation Director Mike Wallace explained where the trail project currently sits. Once the hearing was over, the Board approved the easement.

The meeting was the first since the new school year had begun, so each of the schools’ principals gave an update on the year so far. High School Principal Dan Marburger discussed their move to a modified block schedule, where classes meet only three times a week in extended periods. He feels so far it’s gone well and the students and teachers are adjusting nicely. Middle School Principal Shaun Kruger then gave an update on the transition to standards-based grading. Finally, Elementary Principal Ned Menke went over Title I funding, which includes $600,000 in federal money. The funds are used to support specialized reading and math teachers, summer school, and after school tutoring.

The Board then approved several resolutions, including: the sharing agreement with Panorama for the swim team; the addition of fundraisers for the PACES program; the master form and contracts for athletic contests and officials; authorization for Activities Director Tom Lipovac to use Board President Kyle Baxter’s electronic signature on the contracts; the Title I application; the drug and alcohol testing program for bus drivers; and revisions of dates for Board policies.
