In front of a large, homecoming crowd Friday night, the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tiger football team (1-3 overall; 0-2 Class 3A District 7) put together their best output of the season. It was a battle of Tigers as ADM welcomed Raccoon River Conference member Carroll (2-2 overall; 1-1 Class 3A District 7) to Adel for a Class 3A District 7 matchup. ADM recorded a season-high 262 yards of total offense, 251 from senior quarterback Matthew West, but it wasn’t enough as Carroll left Dallas County with a 17-14 loss.
ADM held their first halftime lead of the season. Trailing 3-0, West orchestrated an eight-play 80-yard drive, scoring on a one-yard touchdown run with 1:37 remaining in the first half. Barton Davis’ extra point gave ADM a 7-3 lead entering the locker room.
The score remained the same until late in the third quarter. Carroll’s Tanner Higgins ran in a seven-yard touchdown run, giving the Tigers the lead for good at 9-7 after a missed extra point. Carroll padded their lead early in the fourth quarter on a two-yard touchdown run from Draven Williamson, and a successful two-point conversion made the score 17-7 with 10:23 remaining. The scoring ended when ADM capitalized on a Carroll fumble inside their 30-yard line. West connected with senior Cole Knoll for a 23-yard touchdown pass to cut the lead to 17-14 with 7:36 remaining. ADM had a chance to take the lead late in the fourth quarter, but Carroll dropped West for an 18-yard sack after driving ADM inside their opponents 33-yard line. ADM ultimately turned the ball over on downs in the final 67 seconds, and Carroll ran out the clock for their second victory of the season.
The loss drops ADM’s overall record to 1-3 overall and 0-2 inside Class 3A District 7. The Tigers resume their season next week in Harlan, facing the Cyclones (3-1 overall; 2-0 Class 3A District 7) in another district game.
