Tuesday’s Greene County School Board elections saw a higher than expected voter turnout.
Voter turnout was 13.40-percent or 839 ballots cast of the 6,260 registered voters in Greene County. However, that figure was a major drop compared to the last regular school board election for Greene County Schools in 2015. Back then, voter turnout was 26-percent. There were 1,627 ballots cast in 2015’s election of the 5,688 registered voters in the district. Part of that election included a $20 million bond referendum that the District was trying to pass.
The last special school board election was held this past March when Steve Fisher ran against Matt Wetrich to fill a vacancy on the board when Ashley Johnston resigned in the middle of her term, which expires in 2019. The voter turnout then was 9.81-percent.
The election results remain unofficial until the Greene County Supervisors canvass the votes tomorrow.
