November Rain

The public libraries around Dallas County are joining together this Monday for the first of two special events.

Perry Library Director Mary Murphy explains, “In the fall of each year, we have Dallas County Reads One Book. And this is our fourth annual Dallas County Reads One Book event, and we’re having a little twist this year. Instead of having one event, we’re having two events: a nonfiction selection and a fiction selection.”

The fiction event will be happening this Monday at the Granger Community Building. Iowa author Donald Harstad will present his book “November Rain,” and will hold a free book talk starting at 6:30 p.m., followed by a light supper reception and book signing. Murphy says Harstad writes police procedural books, and anyone who enjoys a good crime mystery will enjoy his work. “November Rain” can be found at any of the Dallas County public libraries.

The nonfiction event will be held on Thursday, October 19 in Perry, and will feature “A Wrestling Life 2” by Dan Gable. Gable will do a presentation at the high school, appear at a ticketed meet and greet at the Hotel Pattee, and give a free book talk at the Performing Arts Center. There is no cost for Monday’s event, and no preregistration is required. For more information about either event, call 515-465-3569.
