The Dallas County Board of Supervisors convened Tuesday morning in regular session, though they were without Supervisor Mark Hanson for the meeting.

The meeting started with open forum, where the library directors from across Dallas County, including Mary Murphy from Perry, thanked the Board for their funding for the Dallas County Reads One Book program. They also let them know of the two events happening in the coming months, including welcoming Dan Gable to Perry in October. There were very few action items on the agenda, but the Board did start the meeting by approving the state auditor’s engagement letter for the 2017 fiscal year.

They then got an update from Jerry Purdy of Design Alliance on the progress of the new law enforcement center project. Civil Design Advantage presented the site preparation and grading package, and said they are ready to release the documents for the bidding process. The Supervisors approved setting a public hearing regarding bids for 9:45 a.m. on October 3rd. The request for bids will be published immediately, and bidders have until September 27th to submit their proposals.

At 9:30 a.m., they held a public hearing regarding the vacation of Q Court northwest of Van Meter. County Engineer Al Miller, as well as the two property owners to be affected by the vacation each spoke in favor of the vacation. No one spoke against it in the hearing. The Board asked Miller to do a bit more research on the vacation, and they will consider a resolution at next week’s meeting.

Finally, the Supervisors discussed a connection policy for the Ortonville lagoon, which will be expanded and used by the law enforcement center. They also discussed a potential parcel removal from the county’s urban renewal plan to be transferred to the City of Waukee for the Apple facility project. No action was taken on those items, and they will be addressed at a future meeting.
