With the school board elections now over, it’s time to turn our attention to city council and mayoral races in November.

The Jefferson City Council has three available seats for four-year terms and one seat to fill a two-year vacancy. City Administrator Mike Palmer says the City will host a candidate workshop tomorrow for any potential candidates.

“This is the opportunity for people if they’re considering running for office but they’re not really sure what’s involved. We’ll go through what’s required or what they can expect, especially for time-wise, that’s a big key. I think a lot of people think that there’s a lot time involved and it may change their mind a little bit.”

He describes other aspects of being a council person.

“One thing that we like to stress is that it’s not a ‘one issue’ type of operation either in any government. Someone might come in with one issue they want to handle, but then there’s still all of the others that are sitting out there too. So I just want everyone aware of what it takes for budgeting and just day-to-day operations.”

The candidate workshop will take place at the Greene County Historical Museum at 6pm. It is free and open to the public. The filing deadline for city council and mayoral candidates is September 21st.
