Today we introduce the final candidate running for the Greene County School Board.
Steve Karber lives in Jefferson with his wife. He is a retired physician and has served on several boards with Greene County Medical Center. He believes that while teaching children to read at an early age is the basis for education, he is also progressive in finding ways to allow each student to learn to the best of their abilities. He describes one issue he would like to see change in the district, if elected to the school board.
“I would like to see our teachers receive the due respect that they have as professionals. I would like to see them treated as professionals by community, administration and school board. Allow them the leeway to teach the way that they think they should. They need to be accountable as well, those methods have to work. I just like to see that respect given by everyone in the community towards our teachers.”
He is also in favor of building new facilities that are energy efficient to help save money in the general fund, so that the district can keep quality teachers. Karber tells Raccoon Valley Radio the reason why he is running is he wants the school district to be the preferred place for kids to go to school and where teachers want to teach and he wants to play a part in making that happen.
Karber is running against three other individuals for three available seats in the September 12th election.
