The ACGC volleyball team officially opened their home court against cross-county rival West Central Valley last night. The gym wasn’t packed by any means, but that didn’t matter to the Lady Chargers who bumped their set streak up to 14 and win streak up to six with a 25-14, 25-16, 25-14 win over the Lady Wildcats.
The Lady Chargers won the game handedly at the service line, placing 27 aces and shattering the previous high of 16 against the Panorama Lady Panthers. The Lady Chargers now post over four aces per set. Four recorded at least five aces with Savanna Fuller notching the most with seven.
MaKayla Hoing was her usual self with nine kills and three digs, but fellow Senior Mady Smith was the star of the night. Smith gave the Lady Chargers a balanced attack with four kills, five assists, six digs, two blocks, and four aces.
The Wildcats gave a good effort, but didn’t have enough fire power against the Lady Chargers. Sophomores Sydney Neal and Jenna Merical had solid performances. But Coach John Jones was pleading with his team to move around the court more effectively and communicate.
The student section was enjoying every minute of it. The American theme was eminent with “U-S-A” and other patriotic chants. ACGC will participate in the Griswold tournament on Saturday before continuing district play at Van Meter on Tuesday.
