Last week, wind turbines started popping up in northeastern Greene County.

MidAmerican Energy’s contractor, Mortenson Construction, has prepped all 41 sites in Greene County of the 82 total sites in the Beaver Creek Wind Turbine project. Public Relations Representative Adam Jacobi says each turbine consists of nine sections including: four tower sections, three blades, one nacelle and one hub. The towers are about 312-feet tall and when the blades are fully extended, reach up to 493-feet high.Wind Tower Update

Jacobi adds that each turbine takes about three weeks to construct. However because of the magnitude of the project, it’ll take longer for each turbine to be completed.

Later this month, the public will get to see the turbines at a community event.

The 170-megawatt project is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
