At Tuesday night’s Jefferson City Council meeting, a discussion took place about a possible development agreement for a new McAtee Tire and Service facility.
Owner Mike Wahl told the Council that he wants to build a new facility for the 51-year-old business in one of the lots at Greene County Development Corporation’s west business park on Highway 4. He said he wants to build a new facility and increase the commercial service side of the business. City Administrator Mike Palmer says Wahl approached the Council to see if they could offer any financial incentive with the move.
“Our typical response is with tax increment financing (TIF), meaning that the new property taxes that they generate, the City essentially rebates some of those taxes back. In this case, the City staff and elected officials are recommending to rebate 100-percent of the new taxes back over seven years.”
Palmer adds that the proposed development agreement is based on a minimum of $600,000 land value for a minimum of ten years. The Council agreed to move forward and Palmer explains the next steps in the process to formally approve the agreement.
“We have to have a public hearing and amend the area to allow for this TIF area. So there will be a public hearing on that. The next step will be to actually to have the public hearing and then approve the development agreement.”
Wahl hopes to start building the new facility sometime later this year.
