There’s still plenty of time left in camping season to get into the great outdoors, and there’s several places in Dallas County where people can stay.
Forest Park Museum and Arboretum Curator Pete Malmberg says there’s several campgrounds in the County, but the most popular option is the cabins. “Some folks are not aware that we actually have some pretty decent camping now. We’ve got two cabins over at Sportsman’s (Park) you can rent, and just call us up for availability and prices on that. And then we have this Dayton Stagecoach Inn, which is a retreat house now. You can come and reserve it for your large family group on a weekend or something. We also have the Glissman Lodge, which is down near Adel and the Redfield area, and that’s a wonderful lodge that’s on 60 acres of property with a seven acre fishing pond. It’s quite popular, so call us up about reserving that one for your family.”
Malmberg adds, with Labor Day coming soon, the cabins and camping areas are likely to fill up fast, if they haven’t already. For more information or to make reservations, call Dallas County Conservation at 515-465-3577.
