Jefferson City Council 8_22The Jefferson City Council met Tuesday night in regular session.

During open forum, members from Greene County Development Corporation addressed the Council. They invited Council members to an informational meeting about tax increment financing on September 11th. They also invited the Council to tour a housing development in Denison, which the developer is also considering doing a project in Jefferson.

The Council then approved administrative services not to exceed $20,000 to Region XII Council of Governments to rehabilitate six properties under the Iowa Economic Development Authority contract for a grant for $245,000. The Council also approved the second reading to amend an ordinance to increase the water and sewer rates each by three percent, the first reading to amend an ordinance to adopt the city’s code of ordinances to the existing code of ordinances as presented, hiring Kyle DeMoss as a water operator at $17.46 per hour and extending City Administrator Mike Palmer’s contract to another year and at a four-percent salary increase to $93,600.

Additionally, the Council approved to waive a $702 building permit fee for the Greene County Fair Foundation to build a new beef barn next year. The Council also discussed a development agreement for a new facility for McAtee Tire. The Council discussed to offer the business a seven-year, 100-percent TIF rebate, which is based on a minimum of $600,000 land value for a minimum of ten years. No action was taken, but the Council agreed to move forward with the formal process.

Finally, the Council heard an update from Jefferson Matters: Main Street.
