Today is the day the school bells start ringing across Iowa. Here are some reminders for all Guthrie Center elementary students and their parents.

Classes will begin for 5th and 6th graders at 8:20 am, while kindergarten-4th grades will start at 8:30.

Guthrie Center Elementary staff would like to remind parents to not arrive at the school before 3:30 pm if their child does not ride the bus. This will allow the bus drivers to have clear access on and off of school property and will not result in backed up vehicles on 4th Street. All other students will be dismissed at 3:40 pm.

District Superintendent Steve Smith addressed the importance of these policies. “Clearly, one of the bigger things for us is transportation. Trying to meet all needs for transportation for folks is difficult.”

Additionally new Iowa and federal guidelines mandate that a family lunch balance may not exceed a $25 deficit.  No extra meals can be charged to the student’s account until the balance has been paid.  Also, 5th and 6th grade students will not be allowed a second lunch if there is a negative balance.
