The sidewalks in front of the Stuart Public library were lined Monday afternoon, as the sky put on a show.

IMG_1025Around 1 pm, attendees of Stuart Library’s solar eclipse party got a good view of the action. The 50 free pairs of glasses were gone in about two minutes.

Library Director Lisa Sherman said about 70 people were lined outside the door before they opened at noon.  Those who weren’t lucky enough to receive the glasses were given cardboard and paper to make a makeshift projector.

One family came all the way from Colorado to catch the eclipse. According to one of the children, it was a long drive. “Ten hours”!

About 100 people took in the event outside the library.  The festivities concluded with solar cookies and other activities to commemorate the occasion.
