DSCN6723The Jefferson Library invites the public to a historical event on Monday.

Library Director Jane Millard says they have 150 eclipse-safe glasses to give out to the first 150 people to view the total solar eclipse this Monday. She points out that eclipse safe glasses offer the best protection to look at the solar eclipse.

“You should never, ever look at the sun directly without equipment that’s specifically designed for looking at the sun. Even using binoculars or a telescope, you could severely damage your eyes or even go blind, and no, sunglasses do not count. These eclipse glasses, we want to get these out if you want to watch a historic event on Monday, August 21st.”

The glasses are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The view time starts at 1:08pm outside of the library. It is free and open to the public.
