The season unofficially starts today for all West Central Activities Conference volleyball teams with the annual conference scrimmage in Woodward.

That includes the likes of the Panorama Lady Panther volleyball program as they break onto the 2017 scene under the direction of third year head coach Renae Follmuth.

Coach Follmuth will continue her process of revitalizing a Panther volleyball program that hasn’t amassed more than 7 wins in each of the past 5 seasons. As she looks to change that around here in 2017, today’s scrimmage will be a good place for her to gauge her Lady Panther team as they climb up the ladder.

As Panorama heads into the scrimmage today, there will be various aspect coach Follmuth will watch out for but out of all of them, there’s one aspect in particular that will have her most of her attention.

“Ball control, you need to be able to control that ball and that is the passing game. We have put a lot of time in this last week of preseason and a lot through our summer program of ball control. You are in control of that ball, you place it where it needs to go no matter it’s speed, no matter it’s placement on the court, you have to put it. None of it can happen if…we call it out of system, everything goes out of system when you can’t get that pass up. So the passing game is key,” spoke a confident coach Follmuth.

Coach Follmuth then went on to describe the domino effect that passing, or lack of passing, can have on the rest of the game.

“If you don’t have a passing game you can’t have the hitting game, you can’t have that aggressive attack. You’re always playing defense, defense, defense, and you’re not getting proactive on offense and earning those points, you’re just waiting for other teams to make mistakes. We don’t want to do that, we want to be the aggressor, in order to do that we have to have a great ball control passing team,” explained coach Follmuth.

The Lady Panther volleyball team will join the rest of the eight team conference field this afternoon in Woodward, beginning at 3:00 pm.
