Greene County School District recently hired a new head girl’s and boys’ cross country coach.
Jeff Lamoureux was born in Jefferson, but moved several times due to his father being an employee with JC Penney. He is a New Hampton High School graduate and returned to Jefferson in 2000 with his wife Jill. This is Jeff’s first time coaching cross country and he tells Raccoon Valley Radio why he wanted the head coaching job.
“I’ve got three daughters in high school and they all run cross country, believe it or not. So I have a little vested interest there. But really deeper than that, I love to run and I love the sport. I think it’s a great way for kids to excel and to meet some challenges.”
Even though this is Lamoureux’s first stint coaching cross country, he isn’t new to coaching. He’s spent nine years coaching either basketball or football and has also officiated both sports for about five years.
Lamoureux takes over the cross country program with the retirement of Kelly Simpson at the end of last school year.
The Rams first meet is August 24th for the Gilbert Invitational at Iowa State University.
