jefferson welcomeJefferson residents looking to get rid of hazardous waste materials can do so this weekend for free.

This year’s event has been moved from the Greene County Fairgrounds to the north side of the downtown square. City Administrator Mike Palmer explains why they made the change in location.

“The reason for the movement is that we just want to make it a little more visible for everybody. Metro Waste Authority, they’re the ones who put it on and help us. The Kiwanis typically provides volunteers to help unload cars. It’s a very nice event.”

Some of the accepted items include: antifreeze, fluorescent light bulbs, pesticides, oil and lead-based paints and more. The items that won’t be accepted include: ammunition, asbestos, electronics, explosives, fire extinguishers, latex paint, medications, propane tanks and radioactive materials.

The event will be held from 9 to 11am and it is for Jefferson residents only.
