The name Lamoureux holds a prominent place in cross-country at Greene County High School in 2017. That’s because the head coach and three of his daughters are involved with the sport. Jeff Lamoureux is coaching cross-country for the first time. Reagan, a senior, and sophomore twins, Kirsten and Kassie, all are runners. Lamoureux the father, said the involvement of his daughters in the sport was one of the reasons he accepted the position a little more than a week before official practice began. He’s also an amateur road race runner who’s been around cross-country and distance running for some time.
It appears the girls will have enough participation for a varsity team, and possibly a JV. The jury is still out on the boys side with less than five at Media Day. It takes a minimum of five runners to qualify for a team score.
The coach told Raccoon Valley Radio, “We’ve had some challenges, but, bottom line, the kids have been great! They’ve been working hard. We’ve had to do some recruiting to get more kids out in trying to build a team, but that’s kind of part of it, too. The kids that are out have really been working hard and we’ve been trying to up the miles a little bit and push them a little harder for a bend, but don’t break motto. They’ve really responded well.”
The Rams open the season on Thursday, Aug. 24 on the Iowa State University Course in Ames at the Gilbert Coed Invitational.
