A Perry man was taken into police custody early Thursday morning, initially for a warrant related to an assault charge, but he was also found in possession of methamphetamine.

According to police reports, 52-year-old Curtis Hoyt was identified by Perry Police Officer Matt Aswegan just before 1 a.m. Hoyt was wanted on a warrant in Perry for assault causing bodily injury, an aggravated misdemeanor, and on a warrant for contempt of court in Dallas County. While making the arrest, Aswegan found meth and drug paraphernalia on the suspect. Hoyt is now being charged with possession of methamphetamine third or subsequent offense, a class D felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor, in addition to the other charges.

He was transferred to the Dallas County Jail where he is being held with a $5,000 cash-only bond. He will have his initial appearance in court on August 11th. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring more information on this case as it’s made official.
