Another bridge project is underway in Guthrie County.

County Engineer Josh Sebern says the Greenbrier Bridge is closed west of Jamaica. Murphy Heavy Construction of Anita is the contractor. Work includes removing the existing truss bridge and installing a concrete slab bridge. Sebern says the project is smaller in nature compared to their larger Brushy Creek bridge project and he explains the difference with the Greenbrier Creek bridge project.

“The one over Brushy (Creek) is concrete beams, it has bigger spans, heavier piers and heavier abutments. This has shorter spans and it’s a concrete slab, so there’s no beams. It’s just steel and concrete that are reinforced and make the bridge deck. It’s a good, functioning bridge and it’s just a lot simpler to construct.”

The project costs $411,000, paid for with federal aid and local funds. Sebern anticipates the project to last 60-days, pending inclement weather.
