Greene County Action Resource CenterDuring this time of year, everyone’s gardens are blooming with different kinds of produce. For the Thomas Jefferson Gardens in Jefferson, their gardens have an abundance of food.

Board member Becky Greiner says they have carrots, beets, kale, lettuce, peas, herbs, tomatoes, green peppers and more. She explains what she does with all of the produce they harvest from the gardens.

“We go to the food pantry once a week. So far I’ve taken about 24 pounds of produce. So far I’ve taken lettuce, spinach, carrots, beets and peas and as the summer progresses, we’ll take more.”

She points out what the Greene County Action Resource Center does with any leftover produce.

“The best part about donating produce is if they don’t use it on Wednesday during their dispersion day, they take it around to the different Genesis residential houses and they make sure that everything gets used and nothing goes to waste.”

Greiner adds that since they’ve installed the raised garden beds, their produce has done better and they are able to donate more to the local food pantry.
