Two local organizations recently received grants from the State Historical Society of Iowa.

Whiterock Conservancy and Adair Viaduct Preservation received grants through the Historical Resource Development Program. The grants help individuals and organizations preserve, conserve, interpret and educate the public about documentary collections, historic preservation and museums.

Whiterock Conservancy received a grant of $39,122 to preserve the Garst Farmstead Historic District in Coon Rapids. The grant will be used to get professional assistance to restore the structural issues with the farmstead to the historical origins and makes repairs. Adair Viaduct Preservation received $50,000 to rehabilitate the bridge over the IAIS railroad in the City of Adair to its historic condition.

This fiscal year, the State Historical Society of Iowa gave away over $535,000 to 27 projects in 25 communities across the state.
