A Jefferson man was sentenced to probation for a domestic abuse incident.
According to court documents, 29-year-old Steven Logan Dzuris had all but seven days of his one-year prison sentence suspended with time already served, and was placed on probation for two years after pleading guilty to a serious misdemeanor for his first offense for domestic abuse assault-causing injury and mental illness. He was originally charged with a felony for his third or subsequent offense for domestic abuse assault.
The sentence stems from an incident on May 27th. A Jefferson Police Officer saw the victim running with her baby in the 100 block of East Monroe Street. The victim told the officer she was in a verbal altercation with Dzuris, when it turned physical and he hit her in the face with a closed fist.
He was also ordered to pay a fine and court costs.
