The Raccoon River softball conference flexed its muscles in the 2017 season and did so in a big way.
Throughout any point in the 2017 regular season campaign you could find 6 of the 8 Raccoon River Conference softball teams inside the top 15 class 4A rankings. As such the conference showcased 6 teams with a winning record with five of those teams earning at least 26 wins. Going even further, Ballard and Winterset both took away 35 win seasons.
All that is without mentioning the accolades the conference was presented at the state level with 17 total Raccoon River Conference selections spread out across the 2017 all-state selections. The Raccoon River Conference had 8 first team selections, the most of any conference across all classes in the state of Iowa. Four conference selections were based in the all-state second team followed by five selections in the all-state third team.
As for ADM, the Lady Tigers sent two talented players to the list including third team all state selection in Abbie Hlas and second team all state selection in junior Ashley Tennant. ADM’s freshmen standout Abbie Hlas followed up her first team all conference and first team all West District honor with an All-State section in her very first year at the high school level. Hlas zeroed in on 148 strikeouts with just 13 walks inside the circle en rout to producing a season ERA of just 2.10. Hlas also put on quite the show at the plate striking for a .358 batting average.
ADM’s second team all-state selection came in the form of Ashley Tennant who was the team’s leader at the plate with a team best and conference tenth best batting average of .426. Tennant was the embodiment of consistency as the junior recorded at least one hit in 29 out of the 32 games played. Tennant was a first team all conference selection and a member of the 2017 All-West District softball team.
Once again two ADM softball stars enter onto the all-state selections in third team selection Abbie Hlas and second team all state selection in Ashley Tennant.
