Greene County High School softball player Megan Carey has been named to the Class 3A All-State third team by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association. Carey will be a junior at Paton-Churdan HS. She was the center fielder for the Rams and batted .449 as a left-handed slap hitter from the lead off spot in the batting order. She scored 28 runs and was a perfect 24 of 24 stealing bases. Earlier, Carey was named to the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference second team, and also was named to the Central District All-District team.
Greene County head coach Tom Kennedy told Raccoon Valley Radio he felt Carey was deserving of higher accolades in the conference, so it was rewarding to see her get postseason honors on the district and state levels.
Three All-State teams with 22 players on each team were chosen in 3A. There were 25 seniors named overall, but just three of the 22 girls selected to the third team were seniors.
