Many from of the Perry community showed up Thursday at the Perry Lutheran Home to take part in the ribbon-cutting for the new Acorns and Oaks Intergenerational Daycare.

Chief Executive Officer Max Phillips welcomed the crowd to the event, and spoke about the mission of both PLH and Acorns and Oaks. He said the idea for the daycare came from studies that have shown how both children and elderly benefit greatly from interaction with each other. They also felt it was a way to give their own employees a good daycare option. The event then moved downstairs to the daycare itself, which is already in use. The ribbon was then cut in front of the donor wall, which honors people who were intrical in getting the program off the ground. Later in the day there was an open house so more members of the community could see the new facility.

PLH Media Coordinator Mollie Clark says it was great to see so many people attending the events. “We are incredibly grateful and I think amazed at all the support that’s been provided. Whether that be prayerful support or monetary support, it takes all kinds of support from the community.”

Acorns and Oaks operates from 5:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m., and they are currently accepting new families and children. For more information, listen to next Tuesday’s Perry Fareway Let’s Talk Dallas County program at RaccoonValleyRadio.com.
