Baseball just ended for the Greene County Rams and football is just around the corner, but the basketballs are never permanently put away. Chris Nelson is head coach of the boys’ basketball program at Greene County High School and he tells Raccoon Valley Radio what the boys have been doing for basketball this Summer. “We’ve had workouts regularly all Summer, in June and July. The kids are getting in routinely two or three times a week. We broke them into groups so they get more reps that way. The varsity guys have also gone to three team camps.”

The 2016-17 Rams went 14-8 in Nelson’s first season heading the program here. Among the graduation losses were Trey Tucker, the all-time leading scorer for a Jefferson-based boys’ basketball program at 1,811 points. Starters Wade Adcock (senior), Lance Hughes (junior) and Trey Hinote (junior) return, and the team should get a boost from Paton-Churdan senior transfer Joe Towers.
