The West Central Valley School Board met Wednesday night in regular session.

The Board approved hiring Kevin Gilbert as a high school math teacher, Elaine Ware from New Zealand as a high school business education teacher, John Jones as the head volleyball coach and Justin Keck as the head boys’ basketball coach. The Board also approved 2017-18 student and parent handbooks; The Stuart Herald as the official publication; reappointing Symantha Crawford as the board secretary and treasurer; and the financial institutions with First State Bank, Rolling Hills Bank and the Iowa Joint Investment Trust in Des Moines as the depositories for the 2017-18 school year. Additionally, the Board approved policy 710.4 for meal charges.

The Board also discussed the legislative priorities for the Iowa Association of School Boards for the upcoming 2018 legislative session, as well as the beginning process to find a new superintendent, after the Board accepted Dr. David Arnold’s letter of intent to retire at the end of the 2017-18 school year.
