There are a couple of youth programs starting next week with the Jefferson Parks and Recreation Department.
The annual safety camp will be happening Monday through Thursday from 9 to 11am at the Greene County Community Center. It is for those entering kindergarten through first grade. Topics that kids will learn about include: bus, bicycle, electrical, pool, railroad, fire, telephone and animal safety, along with drugs/alcohol and stranger safety. Director Vicky Lautner says the camp plays an important role in a youngster’s life.
“We think it’s important for these kids to maybe get in on the safety information. We encourage the parents to come that last day because they graduate and they kind of get a summarization as to what all they been taught, and they get a little bag. It’s important for us to keep our children safe in this community and I think this is a great program for that.”
The safety camp is free for all participants, due to the continued support from the Jefferson Elks Lodge.
A tennis clinic is also taking place Monday through Friday from 9 to 10am at the tennis court in Russell Park. It is for anyone ages eight and older. Participants will learn the fundamentals of tennis. Rackets will be provided by JPRD. Cost to participate is $20.
Call or stop by the community center to sign up for either program.
