Greene County High School baseball players Trey Tucker and Chase Stoline have been named to the 2017 Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association Class 3A South Central All-District teams. Tucker is on the first team and Stoline is on the second.
Coach Mark Sawhill watched an all senior outfield play outstanding defense this season as well as hit the ball, and these two made up two-thirds of that outfield.
Tucker played left field and hit .400 for the 27 games the Rams played. He had 19 extra base hits (11 doubles, 7 triples, 1 homer) to go with 20 runs scored and 20 driven in. Tucker struck out just eight times in 90 at bats.
Stoline played center field and hit .341 with 36 stolen bases in 39 attempts. He batted lead off and scored 23 runs. Stoline walked nine times and was hit by pitches eight others. His. .451 on-base percentage was two one-thousands ahead of Tucker.
There were 16 players on the first team and 16 on the second. Teams in the South Central District in addition to Greene County are ADM, Atlantic, Boone, Carlisle, Creston, Dallas Center-Grimes, Glenwood, Harlan, Norwalk, Perry, and Winterset.
Greene County went 14-13 overall and had its second winning record in the past three seasons. The Rams won their first District 15 contest by a 7-4 score vs. ADM, then lost 4-2 in the District 15 title game to number one ranked and defending State champion Harlan.
