The namesake of Wiese Park in Perry annually donates $25,000 to the parks and recreation department for work on the park. This year, however, the Wiese Foundation stepped up their contribution to $35,000.
Parks and Recreation Director John Anderson says the yearly donation has been essential in making the park a popular destination, and the additional funds will help them take it to even greater heights. The bulk of the funds will be used to complete the trail segment running through the park, which will be critical for the Let’s Connect project.
Anderson explains, “I went out there and measured, we still have 850 (feet) of 10-foot-wide concrete trail that needs to be poured on the backbone on the north side of Wiese Park to connect 8th Street with 16th Street, which will be the connector trail for the Raccoon River Valley Trail and the High Trestle Trail. So we’ll be using a lot of that money going forward to keep that trail extension going on.”
Additionally, Anderson says they may use some of the funds to work on the gazebo, by having it power-washed and weather-sealed. To hear more about this and other topics, listen to today’s Perry Fareway Let’s Talk Dallas County program at RaccoonValleyRadio.com.
