All nine of the softball teams from the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference have completed their seasons, so the 2017 All-Conference selections can be announced. Greene County did not have any players on the 13-player first team. Sophomore center fielder Megan Carey and senior pitcher/shortstop Hannah Promes were second team selections. Sophomore pitcher/shortstop Jenna Beyers and junior left fielder Megan Durbin were on the honorable mention list.
CMB (Maxwell) won the conference title and the Raiders had three players on the first team and two more on the second. PCM (Monroe) also had three first team players with two each for Roland-Story (Story City), South Hamilton (Jewell), and North Polk (Alleman). Saydel (Des Moines) had one player on the first unit.
Carey batted .449 for the Rams as a left-handed slap-hitting leadoff batter. She had 28 runs scored and was a perfect 24 for 24 stealing bases.
Promes was 5-11 as a pitcher with a 4.35 earned run average. As a batter, she hit .364 with a homer, nine doubles, and 24 runs batted in.
Beyers mainly played shortstop on defense, but she also had a 3-9 pitching record. The sophomore hit .270 with two home runs, eight doubles, 20 RBI, and 18 runs scored.
Durbin hit three homers and batted .304. She had a triple and five doubles, and was 15 for 15 stealing bases.
The Rams were 10-20 overall and 5-10 in the HOIAC. Coach Tom Kennedy’s team started the season at 1-9, and went 9-11 in the last 20 games with victories against two rated teams.
