Despite the home field advantage for the class 4A region 7 semifinal, the ADM offense and defense had tough nights while the visiting Xavier Lady Saints had plenty of offense to end ADM’s season early 10-0 in six innings.

ADM had trouble connecting for very many hits on the night connecting on just three hits all contest while leaving 7 runners on base, five of which were in scoring position. Two of the three ADM hits came from Abbie Hlas while Ashley Tennant added the third. Defensively, it was not ADM’s best outing with 6 errors committed in the ball game. Meanwhile the Lady Saints posted up 10 runs off of 14 hits while leaving 9 runners on base and committing three errors.

ADM had chances early on in the contest but couldn’t connect connect with two runners in scoring position in the first inning and another in the second inning. The game remained tied at 0-0 until the bottom of the third where the designated home team Lady Saints drove in three runs courtesy of four hits and two ADM errors. Two more Lady Tiger errors in the 4th inning combined with 4 Xavier hits gave the Lady Saints four more runs and a 7-0 lead. ADM’s final pair of errors came in the sixth where they were combined with 4 Xavier hits and three more Xavier runs which ended the game early by the ten run rule.

Xavier’s Maria Steffen acquired her 15th win on the year though six innings pitch without giving up a single earned run on just three hits allowed while tossing five strikeouts. ADM’s Abbie Hlas did pitch a solid game despite those 14 hits given up as those 14 hits  broken down for the Lady Saints were all singles. Hlas ended the night with the loss through six innings while tossing one strikeout and issuing 3 walks.

The loss unfortunately brings the 2017 season to a screeching halt for the Lady Tigers who end the year with a 19-17 record, 6-8 inside the Raccoon River Conference, and a 13-9 non conference record. The Xavier Lady Saints will now head to Mount Pleasant on Tuesday for the right to head to the state tournament.
